23 Mar Live Today!
I have so many note books in my house cause you know I like to write down everything, any new thing I learn, a new word, a new quote, and writing down what am feeling. Today I picked up my most recent one and started to peruse. Do you want to know some things that I have recently learnt? Yes, I will go ahead and share then.
I will start by a lesson by the most outstanding teacher of them all, Jesus! He said “take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself”. Right? I mean we are mostly stressed about our futures; of the plans we have laid out and wish to achieve but why though. Life is supposed to be a mystery, you can never really tell how tomorrow is going to turn out, you will plan for it of course but, until the day arrives, its only then that it unfolds. Plan, act and then let the future unfold. If the Lord Himself is telling you not to worry, I don’t see the reason why you should, He got us!
To follow that I feel I should tell you what Thomas Carlyle 1871 said, that; “our main business is not to see what lies dimly at a distance, but to do what lies clearly at hand”. The man was a philosopher in the 80s, we all know that was the era of the genius minds, and Carlyle knew what he was talking about. Focus on what you can do today, with the aim of making a better tomorrow. The future will only be as you fantasize if today you do what needs to be done, no pressure. Live today.
Everyone knows this prayer am sure, “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference”. It’s a really beautiful prayer that can be a very good guidance to life if used wisely. Let’s see, something bad already happened, the milk is spilled, there is no going back at all, no switch, then leave it, let the past be the past. You have done something bad and you have a chance to rectify that, to ask for forgiveness, to do the right thing, the right way, then don’t sit and sulk, do something about it. To be honest though, there are times you don’t even know what is going on, no clue on what direction to take, what to do or say, this is where you seek advice, guidance from friends and mentors, ask for help, and pray to God to guide you.
Another powerful quote, “I must love myself in action, lest I wither in despair”. I know we are always encouraged to love ourselves, we all say we love ourselves too much, we look in the mirror and tell ourselves ‘I love you’. The question is, is it just words? What action do you take to show yourself that you really love yourself? Even in our relationships when your partner doesn’t show their love in actions, you end up doubting their words right? Well then, the same to self-love, you must prove your love to yourself and you do that by keeping the promises you gave to yourself. People are always making goals, to do lists and new year resolutions, and you know what brings despair, disappointment and self-doubt, it’s by not following up on those promises, sabotaging their love, its like giving themselves a heartbreak.it is better not to promise yourself something if you will not follow through, it only brings you down emotionally. I don’t know if am making sense, but you have to keep your own promises to yourself; if you want lose weight, start working out and watching your diet, if you promised yourself to eat better, stock your house with health foods, eat your fruits, vegetables, drink water without fail, if you promised yourself to only be in healthy relationships, then know your worth and get that love that you deserve, if you want that job, apply! If not that, then you will lead a miserable life and not living to your potential, not loving yourself with action, just words, which is not enough.
Remember this, “life is too short to be little”. Just look around and see how people are leaving this world day in day out, and am sure most of them at the end they have regrets. They regret not living being their highest self. We all know, deep down in our hearts we feel it, we can tell that we are very, very, very special, we want the world to see and recognize how brilliant, how wonderful, how witty, or creative we are. Why not then just do it, just be your awesome self, don’t even think or look around, be your best self as long as you are in the right. That little awesomeness you are showing, make it magnificent, make it awe-inspiring, don’t matter if the world sees, you, will know that you lived, you didn’t suppress your stunning self. We are always judging those people who are living out loud, but instead, we should be inspired by them, they are true to themselves. Rather than judge someone lying on the coach, wake up and do what makes you happy. Your world is yours to subdue and conquer.
“Our life is what our thoughts make it”. Guys, I can’t stress enough, we are what we think. With positive thoughts, you will be untouchable, and unfortunately having negative thoughts, nothing will be going your way, so be wise. Its hard to be positive, trust me I know but remember we have said, its about loving ourselves with actions. So, start by deciding that from now henceforth, you are living positively, having positive thoughts, of abundance, happiness, love, joy, peace, and finding solutions of our problems. Practice everyday especially in chaos to think of the best outcomes instead of focusing on how the problem is making you feel. Like we said above, ask God to help you forget the things that you can’t change and the courage to change the ones you can. If you are faced with a problem, and you can only focus on how its going to be better, or how you can change the situation to the better with your positive thoughts, you win at life! Everything just starts to plan out your way. Happy thoughts, happy life! Practice daily how to live abundantly in your mind.
Following the lesson of our teacher Jesus, we should aim to live a day by day, live today! How do you do that, let me show you; say the following with me, also come back tomorrow and the day after and say these affirmations to remind yourself; Just for Today
Just for today I will be happy
Just for today I will try to adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjust everything to my own desires
Just for today I will take care of my body
Just for today I will try to strengthen my mind
Just for today I will exercise my soul
Just for today I will be agreeable
Just for today I will try to live through this day only, not to tackle my whole life problem at once
Just for today I will have a program
Just for today I will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax
Just for today I will be unafraid, especially I will not be afraid to be happy to enjoy what is beautiful, to love, and to believe that those I love, love me.
